ThermalTray™ - Platforms
Thermo-conductive platform for supporting CoolRack or CoolSink modules in liquid temperature sources
Advantages:
ThermalTray series platforms support CoolRack tube modules and CoolSink plate modules in liquid temperature sources. Choose from 3 different modules to suit your cooling, freezing and heating/thawing requirements.
The ThermalTray Concept

ThermalTray shown in ice (left) and in a water bath (right) with CoolRack and CoolSink modules on top.
ThermalTray modules are made of the same thermo-conductive alloy that CoolRack and CoolSink tube and plate modules are made of. When placed in ice, the heat from the warmer ThermalTray is transferred to the ice, cooling ThermalTray and equilibrating it to just above the ice temperature. By placing a CoolRack or CoolSink module on top of the ThermalTray, the heat from the warmer CoolRack or CoolSink will transfer to the ThermalTray and then down into the ice, cooling the samples in the CoolRack or CoolSink. The precision-engineering of the ThermalTray and the CoolRack/CoolSink modules ensures optimal fit between the two surfaces, maximum thermal-conductivity, and uniform temperature distribution. For heating/thawing, place the ThermalTray in a heat source (such as a water bath) and the heat from the warmer bath will move toward the ThermalTray warming it and the modules and samples on top.
Samples stay well away from the temperature source, yet maintain desired temperature. ThermalTray is ideal for applications that require extended cooling or heating, or when sterility assurance is critical.
Source temperatures could include:
- ice
- liquid nitrogen
- water bath
- other liquid temperature sources
Features:
- ThermalTray platform series support CoolRack and CoolSink modules in liquid temperature sources - such as ice water, liquid nitrogen, water baths
- Using a ThermalTray in a pan of ice provides 10+ hours of <4°C cooling of tubes or plates
- Provides a stable stage and pipetting, dissecting, sorting or performing a variety of other temperature-sensitive procedures
- Keeps tubes and plates at desired temperature, while ensuring no direct contact which minimizes risk of contamination and increases sterility assurance
- Hard-annodized surface for resistance to rust, corrosion, and abrasion
- Function in a wide temperature range - from -196°C through >+100°C - for use in a variety of applications
- Sterilize via autoclave, high-heat, bleach solutions, disinfectants or alcohol. Compatible with common lab detergents
- Developed and designed in California. Made in USA. Patent Pending.

All three modules may be used in all temperature sources, however, here are some suggestions for selecting the proper platform for your application.
ThermalTray SLP is 1" (2.5 cm) high and is recommended for use in a Maxi 9L ice pan with liquid nitrogen. The height will ensure a vapor barrier develops over the sample set on top of the ThermalTray and will keep samples close to -150°C on the bench top.
ThermalTray LP is 2" (5 cm) high and is recommended for use in a Maxi 9L ice pan with ice. The height allows a adequate amount of ice to keep samples below 4°C for approximately 10 hours on the bench, and also keeps samples elevated so technician is comfortable while processing.
ThermalTray HP is 4" (10 cm) high and is recommended for use in a water bath. The extra height ensures adequate water level is maintained for the water bath and ensures user comfort during processing.
NOTE: Always adhere to your lab's safety procedures and use protective clothing when handling very hot or very cold CoolRack modules.
What Customers are Saying:
"Don't you hate it when you spend all morning preparing RNA or harvesting lysates, only to come back...to find your precious samples drowning in a pool of melted ice? ....But after using the ThermalTray and CoolRack a few times, my soggy-sample days are officially over! Not only do these tools keep your samples chilled for hours, but they also keep everything organized, safe, and secure. Highly recommended!"
