The BioCision line of products includes CoolCell® alcohol-free cell freezing containers, CoolRack® thermo-conductive sample modules, CoolBox™ portable ice-free cooling and freezing devices and TruCool® ice pans and other accessories. BioCision products offer advanced utility for standardizing and protecting temperature-sensitive materials in cell and tissue culture and cryopreservation, histology, immunohistochemistry, virus and bacterial research, molecular biology, cell therapy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, biofuels research, and many other areas.

CoolCell® alcohol-free cell freezing containers

CoolCell® containers are passive controlled-rate cell freezing devices that freeze cells at a -1˚C/minute rate in a -80˚C freezer – without isopropanol or other fluids. The patent-pending technology utilizes a highly insulative outer material and a thermo-conductive solid-state core to regulate the rate of heat removal. CoolCell containers provide reproducible freezing profiles and high post-thaw viability and functionality, and are proven for use in research, preclinical and clinical development with stem cells, primary cells, cell lines, PBMC, yeast, bacteria, and other biomaterials.

Compared to isopropanol-based containers and expensive controlled-rate freezers, CoolCell containers provide a cost-effective, maintenance-free method for standardizing cell cryopreservation.


CoolCell containers
are available for 1 to 2 mL cryogenic vials, 3.5 to 5 mL cryogenic vials, and 5 mL and 10 mL injectable vials.

CoolRack®, CoolSink®, ThermalTray™ thermo-conductive sample modules

Made of a thermo-conductive alloy, CoolRack tube modules and CoolSink plate modules rapidly adapt to any temperature source and provide uniform temperature control of all samples during cooling, freezing or thawing period. Place the modules in direct contact with ice, dry ice, liquid nitrogen, water baths, refrigerators, freezers, hot plates or other temperature sources, and then place your tube or plate sample on the module. Samples stay at the desired temperature, yet away from the temperature source minimizing the risk of sample contamination.

CoolRack tube modules are available in a variety of sizes for tubes including: microcentrifuge tubes, cryogenic vials, PCR tubes/strips/plates, 15 mL and 50 mL tubes, blood collection tubes, and others. CoolRack XT modules are SBS-compliant and can be briefly used on robotic instruments to keep samples cold while processing.

CoolSink plate modules accommodate flat-bottom 96- and 384-well plates, round-bottom 96-well plates and multi-well tissue culture plates. CoolSink XT modules are SBS-compliant and can be briefly used on robotic instruments to keep samples cold while processing.

ThermalTray platforms are constructed of the same thermo-conductive alloy and keep CoolRack and CoolSink modules elevated when working with liquid temperature sources such as water baths, ice baths, alcohol baths or liquid nitrogen.

CoolBox™ portable ice-free cooling and freezing devices

CoolBox systems provide hours of bench top cooling or freezing for a variety of common laboratory tubes or plates – without the use of ice, electricity or batteries. Through the use of novel, proprietary cooling and freezing cores, CoolBox systems will keep samples cool (0.5 to 4˚C) for up to 16 hours or frozen (-80 to -0˚C) for up to 10 hours.

CoolBox accommodates a variety of thermo-conductive CoolRack tube modules and CoolSink plate modules that hold microfuge tubes, cryogenic tubes, PCR tubes and plates, and other commonly used tubes and plates. The conductive alloy of CoolRack and CoolSink modules evenly distributes the temperature to all wells, ensuring consistent and reproducible sample temperatures.

CoolBox systems are ideal for applications that need to be kept cold but where ice or dry ice contamination is a risk, such as qPCR, protein assays, ELISA, cell staining and other temperature-sensitive preparations, and are also suitable for cooling samples biosafety cabinets or for short transport.

TruCool® ice pans and other accessories

TruCool accessories bring innovation to common laboratory products and processes. The portfolio encompasses leak-proof cryogenic vials and vial forceps, hinged cryostorage boxes, ice pans and buckets, and microcentrifuge tubes.

TruCool cryogenic vials, vial forceps and cryostorage boxes are fresh updates of established laboratory products. TruCool cryogenic vials feature a thermally-fused gasket on the cap that replaces traditional O-rings and ensures a more secure, leak-proof seal. TruCool cryostorage boxes feature a hinged lid that opens easily when frozen, stays attached to the base of the box and ensures that lid markings and vial samples stay in synch. Available in six (6) bright colors, these boxes can be easily found in frosty freezers. CryoCeps cryogenic vial forceps feature a vial-shaped tip that grabs and holds cryogenic vials so they can be transferred while frozen without risk of finger injury. The unique and patented features of each product enables standardization and archival integrity to the cryogenic sample storage process.

TruCool ice pans and buckets
come in five (5) sizes and seven (7) brilliant colors. Made of ethyl-vinyl acetate foam, these containers are leak-proof, will not sweat or deform, and are suitable for ice, dry ice, liquid nitrogen, and saline and alcohol solutions.

TruCool microcentrifuge tubes feature a unique "pull back" cap that can be opened easily with one hand. The ergonomic design requires less force to open, while minimizing risk of contamination as fingers and thumb never pass over the open tube.
